Many Mother's In My Life
I have been blessed with many amazing women in my life. First off, my Mum. I am her clone as my daughter is mine. The King genes are strong ones, we are all stubborn and determined, doing whatever it takes for our families. My Mum raised two capable children and adores her grandchildren more than anything. My Mum was born in Scotland during WWII and immigrated shortly after to Canada. I will be going in a couple of weeks to see where my Mum was born and where my Grandparents lived. This is a trip of a lifetime for me that has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I went to Pier 21 a few years ago to see where my Mum landed in Canada and now I get to see where she was born. It feels like a final piece in our bond.
My Mother in law, Mary, a hero to raise three boys. I love her spiritual connection to the world and stories of her tribe. May we all be blessed to have connections in our lives like the ones she's formed. I am thankful to have provided her with a granddaughter.
As a child, our family was part of a community where all the Moms looked out for all the children, a wonderful way to grow up. We had great neighbours and a community of friends that was centred around Greendell CC. I think of all those women as the Moms. I knew that I could go to any of them at anytime if I needed something. Usually during Carnival time that meant asking one of the Moms where my parents were, busy running activities. I thank all of you Greendell Moms for showing me what a great community can be, inspiring me to want to work at a Community Centre, be on Boards, and letting me know what strong women you all are and what can be accomplished by women when they work together. I love now seeing how accomplished my childhood friends of those women have become.
Other Moms came into my life at the various jobs I've worked. A ten year stint at Woolco/Wal-Mart started with many Mother Daughter combinations and female managers that lead me to believe I could do anything. Working at MTS showed me how dangerous women can be and how toxic it can be when women don't lift each other up. Fortunately, I also found females there that could show me what a woman can achieve. There were also women that nurtured and supported me through relationships, having a baby on my own and giving wise advice. I spent more time at work then at home or with family, I appreciated these female bonds.
I am very fortunate to have sons and a daughter in my life that were birthed by other women. I thank Ann and Tracy for their babies. Nothing has brought me more pride and joy than being called Mum by Tenysha and Tevin and being introduced as Step-Mum by Jakub and Sefton. I am blessed and humbled to be a part of all their lives.
I'm trying to be the best Mum I can be, like the wonderful women in my life. Inspiring, easy to approach, and making other girls and women feel like they are worthy, I have learned from the best. Having my daughter is the biggest accomplishment, joy and blessing in my life, she is amazing. May I lead her to know that we can get through anything together, I will always have her back and that she can do everything. When she was born I gave her a globe and told her I want her to see the world, so far, we're doing well.
Thank you to the Mums and Women in my life, enjoy your day.
